It is not unusual for clients to try Reiki for the very first time, without any clue of what to expect. A passive form of healing, Reiki really requires no preparation except to consent to receiving a treatment.
When you arrive to the studio, we will begin by having a conversation about what brought you to the decision to try a Reiki healing. This may be a physical or emotional discomfort, an event taking place in your life or all of the above. This conversation is remains confidential and private, thank you to the purpose built studio, away from any other buildings, or people.Â
Where there is a degree of dis-ease, chronic pain or stress involved, I share some tools for managing these negative feelings once you get home such as specific journalling prompts, visualisations, breath work, heart math or somatic mind-body techniques. These are most often tools I have used myself during my own Chronic pain and Stress journeys. For clients who are attuned to Reiki, we explore ways to take the technique even deeper, further enhancing its efficacy.
Then, you will be asked to lay on the massage table.
I practice the Traditional Usui hands on method of Reiki, whereby I place my hands on energy centres of the body. For people who prefer not to be touched, I hover my hands slightly above.
Through working on the energy centres using Reiki I work to clear blockages and balance the centres by acting as a conduit for Universal energy: the life force of all things.
Whilst Scientists are still working to develop the correct tools that can read Universal energy; Reiki is a form of energy healing which has been scientifically proven to reduce cortisol, increase variable heart rate, slow and calm the heart rate and induce relaxation. Through the measurement of these factors during peer reviewed scientific studies, the body's ability to heal increases, as blood flow and immunity responses are able to respond more effectively to certain ailments. You can explore more about the Scientific studies of Reiki on the Centre for Reiki Research website.
After a session, my clients most frequently report feeling 'Lighter'. Sometimes I or my clients experience visions or intuitive messages during a healing, which help the healing process. We can then refer back to these experiences by using visualisation tools to deepen the healing experience.
Reiki is a cumulative practice. I usually recommend a minimum of 3 sessions to uncover the layers of blockages within the system, and so together we can formulate a new way of reducing stress and inflammation within your body.
